In January 2005, Manny launched his "Bowling
Strikes for Schools" charity event, as a way to give back to the Boston Public
Schools (BPS). Each January, Manny hosts this event at Ron's Bowling and Gourmet
Ice Cream in Hyde Park, on the lanes where Manny grew up bowling. These Hyde
Park charity bowling events, presented by Hyde Park Cooperative Bank, have
generated over $15,000 for the Boston Public Schools, 75% of which has gone to
assist the school libraries and the remainder to support the BPS athletics
program. Generous sponsors of these events have included the Boston Red Sox and
NESN.
Last November, Manny extended his "Bowling Strikes
for Schools" charity event to King's in Boston -- an event that raised an
additional $15,000 for Boston Public Schools! The King's event also featured
guest appearances by Manager Terry Francona and teammates Curt Schilling and
Kevin Youlikis.
Over the past three years, Manny's "Bowling
Strikes for Schools" charity events have raised over $30,000 for Boston Public
Schools... with plenty more charity bowling events to
come!

For the 4th consecutive year, Manny
Delcarmen’s Bowling Strikes for Schools was an immense success as it
built off of and grew it’s hosting at Kings Back Bay last year.
Saturday saw 250+ Red Sox and Manny fans, and supporters of the Boston
Public School System, pack the lanes of Kings thanks to the generous
contributions of sponsors new and old including Bob’s Discount
Furniture, NESN, the Red Sox Foundation, Goulston & Storrs, Reebok
and many more. The event continued its trend of increasing
contributions received each year as more than $25,000 was raised to
benefit the Boston Educational Development Fund this weekend. Although
Red Sox team members and guests of last year Terry Francona, Kevin
Youkilis, and Curt Schilling were unable to attend because of other
commitments, Red Sox Vice President of Player Personnel Ben Cherington,
former New England Patriots’ Tight End, and Super Bowl Champion
Christian Fauria, and NESN’s on-field reporter Heidi Watney were
present and making rounds to mingle with bowlers and General Admission
guests. Media participation and coverage included Red Sox flagship
broadcasters NESN and 680 WRKO as well as 93.7 MIKE FM. Fans were
treated to raffle prizes and auction items that included a dinner for 4
with Manny and his family, Red Sox tickets, an autographed Dustin
Pedoria bat, an autographed Kevin Youkilis jersey, and numerous Manny
autographed memorabilia. There were prizes for Top 10 scores and even
an appearance by local area recording rap artists, M.A.V, who wrote and
produced Manny’s entry song out of the bullpen.
Manny wishes to thank all those who supported
this great cause as he continues his effort to give back to and improve
the school system he attended for so many years. He looks forward to
enhancing the 5th Annual Bowling Strikes for Schools in 2009. Thank
you again, to all those who turned out.

For the 4th consecutive year, Manny Delcarmen has hosted his charity
bowling event at Ron's Gourmet Ice Cream in Hyde Park, MA to benefit
the Boston Public School System. Staying true to his roots where he
grew up, Manny continued the tradition of bringing in close friends and
family to challenge his Dream Team at the Manny Delcarmen Candlepin
Challenge. Teams competed for a chance to win tickets to the Red Sox
home opener, but they had to beat Manny's team! In the past three
years, no team has conquered that feat. However, this year was
different. The team made up of Rich Hallberg, Brian Feist, John Zappi,
Dave Hodge, Bob Whitcomb and Mike Macintosh took out Manny's team in
stunning fashion to claim the grand prize and start a fierce rivalry
for next year's event.
Commonwealth Community Bank continued it's long standing relationship
with Manny and sponsored this wonderful local event. With Norm and the
Bank, this event would not be possible.
And as always, a special thanks goes out to Ron's Gourmet Ice Cream for
hosting this event and their gracious hospitality. Not to mention the
chance to try some of their world famous home made ice cream.
All in all, this event raised close to $5,000. Coupled with Manny's
other bowling event at Kings in November, Manny will be presenting a
check for over $25,000 to the Boston Public School System.
And thanks to all of Manny's friends, family and fans that came out to
support this great cause. We look forward to seeing everyone again
next year!
